Stars: 4/5
THIS IS A MUST READ!!!!
SUMMARY
From the bestselling author of the acclaimed DCI Lambert series comes The Controller, a gripping serial killer thriller introducing Sam Lynch and Special Agent Sandra Rose.
It is six years since special agent Samuel Lynch left the FBI following the disappearance of his son, Daniel. Lynch believes an underground organization known as The Railroad is responsible and has never stopped searching.
When Special Agent Sandra Rose investigates a house invasion gone wrong, she discovers the assailant has the legendary, and infamous, Railroad tattoo carved onto his back and he claims to know Daniel’s whereabouts.
Rose draws Lynch into her case, and together they become embroiled in an unparalleled world of violence and evil.
It seems that to see his son again, Lynch will have to confront his greatest fear and face the ultimate test: an encounter with the Railroad’s enigmatic and deadly leader, The Controller.
BOOK REVIEW
Wow! Talk about a fantastic way to start out a new series! From the beginning, Brolly draws you in into Sam Lynch’s world with the strange disappearance of his son Daniel, and the mysterious organization called The Railroad. This was a slow-burning novel, that really starts to pick up once you get about halfway through it. Reader warning: some details and scenes in the book are a little graphic and there is a very high body count. Some scenes made me squirm, but all in all, they added to the plotline without seeming unnecessary or over the top. The characters were great! It was interesting watching Sam Lynch’s character develop throughout the novel. As the story developed we were given flashbacks of his son’s abduction and got to know what made Sam tick. The character relationship between Sam and Rose was also fun to watch, complex but natural! They make a fantastic crime-fighting duo. The sudden sexual tension between the two was surprising and a tad unrealistic, but no book can ever be perfect. I also loved the fact that Sam was an ex- FBI agent investigating murders and The Railroad vigilante style. Overall, the Controller was a book I couldn’t put down, and kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time! None of the twists and turns were predictable, and I can wait for the sequel!
CONCLUSION
I definitely suggest picking up The Controller! This was a fabulous start to a new series by Matt Brolly, and I can’t wait to see where he takes it! Although I haven’t read his DCI Lambert series, after this novel, I plan on adding it to my never-ending TBR! The Controller was action-packed, and so hard to put down. The end of the book leaves a lot of unanswered questions, which I am sure will all be answered in the sequel. As I’ve said before, ADD THIS TO YOUR LIST!!
